Vatican Jubilee 2025 Tickets

By Updated 12 min read

Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets belong to the Jubilee Year of Hope, which ran from 24 December 2024 to 6 January 2026, so that window has closed. For a visit now, the ticket that matters is regular Vatican Museums entry, which costs EUR 20 without online booking.

Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets is a search I understand, because the Holy Year drew pilgrims to Rome and many of them wanted one clear answer on what to buy. Here is the short version as of November 2026: the Year of Hope began on 24 December 2024 and ended on 6 January 2026, so the Jubilee window has closed.

What stays useful is how Vatican entry works today, what it costs, and which booking option suits your trip. I’ll cover all of that below, and every price and date is the latest published as of November 2026. Prices and hours change, so I point you to the official page for each one.

Did Vatican Jubilee 2025 Tickets Exist as a Separate Ticket?

Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets do not show up as their own category on the official Vatican Museums price page, which lists full, reduced, school, student, Castel Gandolfo and free entry. Since none of those is labeled for the Jubilee, I would not expect the Museums to have sold a special Jubilee ticket. You can verify this on the official Prices and Tickets page.

The rule that matters more is the validity. The Museums entry ticket covers the Museums and the Sistine Chapel only on the day it is issued, and tickets cannot be refunded. That is true in a Jubilee year or an ordinary one, so Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets followed the same day-only rule as any other, and it is why I tell people to choose their date before they pay.

Other Jubilee events, such as ceremonies and audiences, are run by separate offices and have their own rules. I don’t have sourced details on them, so I won’t guess. If your question is about a pilgrimage ceremony rather than a museum visit, were Jubilee tickets different from regular ones? walks through that angle, and the page on the Jubilee Door covers the door question.

When Did the Jubilee Year Start and End?

The Jubilee Year of Hope ran from 24 December 2024 to 6 January 2026 and was the latest ordinary holy year, according to Wikipedia’s article on the Catholic jubilee. The present extraordinary holy year is the Jubilee of St. Francis, which began on 10 January 2026 and will conclude on 10 January 2027.

Pilgrims and visitors in St. Peter's Square, the setting for Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets and visitsBook aheadVatican: Museums & Sistine Chapel Entrance TicketCheck availability · from $36

Looking further ahead, the same article says an extraordinary jubilee is planned for 2033, to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the death and resurrection of Jesus. If you are planning a trip years from now, that is the date to watch.

The tradition itself is old. Western Christianity dates it to 1300, when Pope Boniface VIII convoked a holy year. Thousands of pilgrims had already come to Rome at Christmas in 1299, and Boniface published his bull on 22 February 1300. Ordinary jubilees have generally been celebrated every 25 or 50 years since, with extra “extraordinary” ones declared when needed.

The Biblical root is simple, and the article quotes it in a single line:

“A jubilee is a special year of remission of sins, debts and universal pardon.”
Wikipedia · Wikipedia: Jubilee in the Catholic Church

I find that helpful context for visitors. The Vatican you walk through today is the same site pilgrims have been traveling to for centuries, which is why the ticket rules feel strict: crowds are large in every year, not only in a Jubilee.

Vatican Museums Entry Tickets Explained

Vatican Museums entry tickets start at EUR 20 for a full adult entry without online booking, roughly $22.33 at the ECB reference rate of 2026-11-06. Reduced tickets are EUR 10, and the official site charges an extra EUR 5 for Skip the Line booking on the Vatican Museums website. The table below lays out the main categories from the official price page.

Ticket Without online booking With official Skip the Line Approx. USD (ECB rate)
Full entry EUR 20.00 See the official page about $22.33
Reduced entry EUR 10.00 EUR 10.00 + 5.00 about $11.17, or $16.75 with the fee
Students up to 25 EUR 10.00 EUR 10.00 + 5.00 about $11.17, or $16.75 with the fee
Schools EUR 5.00 EUR 5.00 + 2.00 about $5.58, or $7.82 with the fee
Papal Palace and Secret Garden, Castel Gandolfo EUR 12.00 full See the official page about $13.40

The dollar figures use the ECB euro reference rates, and your card’s exchange rate will differ slightly. Treat them as a planning guide.

Who gets in free?

Free entry at the Museums applies, per the official page, to children below the age of 7 and to visitors with a certified invalidity of at least 67%, and a companion goes free too when the visitor is not self-sufficient. The page also lists the last Sunday of the month, subject to the museum calendar. Students need a document confirming enrollment for the current year, and the official page warns that a reduced ticket bought without entitlement must be replaced with a full-price one.

For the full price breakdown, my main guide on Vatican Museum tickets goes through each category in more detail.

Holy Year Vatican Admission: Your Booking Options

Holy Year Vatican admission comes down to two sensible routes: buy at the door or on the official site, or reserve a partner skip-the-line ticket for a fixed time slot. I lean toward booking ahead, since a timed entry takes away the biggest unknown of the day. If you want to compare every ticket type side by side, Vatican tickets online is the page I’d start from.

Here are the partner tickets I’d look at first. They are third-party products sold through GetYourGuide, not the official ticket office, and their prices are shown in dollars.

The first option, the plain entrance ticket, lets you use a dedicated entrance and pick up an audio guide at a dedicated desk inside if you choose that option. The second works through a meeting point at Via Germanico 8, and the listing asks you to arrive 15 minutes before your time. Latecomers are not guaranteed skip-the-line access, so build in a margin.

The third option has two meeting points depending on the option you choose, and it offers an upgrade that adds reserved access to St. Peter’s Basilica. Read the option names carefully before you pay, because inclusions differ. That is the main thing to compare when shopping for Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets or their current equivalents.

As one traveler put it about the value of a timed ticket:

“The only way to visit the Vatican Museums are with a skip the line ticket, because you will spend around 4h in the museum if you want to enjoy it properly, but if you don't have a skip the line ticket, add at least 2-3 hours of waiting in line. A line that is literally at least 100 m long”
Rares, Romania, 2026-10 · GetYourGuide review about Rome: Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Skip-The-Line Ticket

That reviewer says a visit takes around four hours if you want to enjoy it properly. Plan your day around that figure rather than squeezing the Museums into a short window. For ideas on cheaper ways to see Rome and the Vatican, see these budget-friendly Rome and Vatican options.

How Do I Avoid Vatican Jubilee 2025 Tickets Scams and Wrong Websites?

Avoiding Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets scams means buying only from the official portal or from a seller you have checked, and confirming the web address before you enter card details. The Vatican Museums name tickets.museivaticani.va as the only official site for online tickets, and they warn about websites with similar-looking domains that may charge significantly higher prices.

My routine is simple. I type the official address myself instead of following an ad, and I compare the price with the table above. If a site asks for much more than EUR 20 for a plain full ticket with no tour, no audio guide and no skip-the-line service, I close the tab.

Partner products can legitimately cost more than the face value, because they include a booking fee and sometimes a host or an audio guide. The test is whether the listing tells you what you get. The tickets above name their inclusions and exclusions, and that is the standard I’d hold any seller to.

Finally, remember the “no refunds” rule from the official page. Check dates, names and time slots on the confirmation email as soon as it arrives. If you are weighing the official route against partner tickets, official Vatican Museums tickets lays out how that route works.

Can I Visit St. Peter’s Basilica Without a Ticket?

Visiting St. Peter’s Basilica without a ticket is possible, since entering the basilica itself is described as free of charge, though access is not guaranteed and may vary due to crowd control. That wording comes from the exclusions on the Museums ticket listing, which notes that a basilica ticket is not included. The dome is a separate, paid access.

The maps listing shows opening hours of 7 am to 7:10 pm every day for the basilica, and 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Saturday for the Vatican Museums, with Sunday shown as closed. Confirm both on the official sites before you go.

One visitor wrote about the basilica’s free entry:

“Do not miss this place for a FREE location! This is the most beautiful church I've ever been to. Once your through security and the main doors, you are truly hit by the size and artwork. We got there 645am and already there's a line but got in very quickly. If your just there for free visit, you can see most of it in 40mins. Pay extra for the other locations.”
Crimsonpig101 · Google Maps review about Saint Peter’s Basilica

That review also says a line was already there at 6:45 am but moved quickly, and that you can see most of the basilica in 40 minutes if you only do the free visit. It is one person’s experience, so treat the timings as a rough guide.

What about the excavations under the basilica?

The Scavi excavations under St. Peter’s are booked separately from everything else. The official Scavi page lists an individual ticket at EUR 13, including the contribution for the guide, and says no reductions are given for any reason. At the ECB rate that is about $14.51. Reservations are made through the Scavi office, not through the Museums.

Which Dates Should I Check Before Booking?

Dates to check before booking include the Vatican’s holiday calendar and the museum opening calendar, because public holidays can bring closures and bigger crowds. The holiday list I use is the Nager.Date public holiday data, and the official closures are in the Museums’ own calendar.

For the Vatican, the list for 2026 includes the Immaculate Conception on 8 December, Christmas Day on 25 December and St. Stephen’s Day on 26 December. The 2027 list starts with 1 January and 6 January, and includes Easter Monday on 29 March 2027. Italy’s list adds Epiphany on 6 January and Easter Sunday on 28 March 2027.

I treat these as flags, not confirmed closures. The official page points to a calendar of museum openings and closures, and that is the document to trust.

One more date quirk is worth knowing. The official page lists free entry on the last Sunday of the month, subject to the calendar, yet the maps listing shows Sunday as closed. Those two facts don’t sit comfortably together, so confirm the exact Sunday in the calendar before you plan around free entry.

Vatican Jubilee 2025 Tickets by the Numbers

Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets are easier to plan once you know a few facts about Vatican City, and each one comes from Wikidata’s entry for Vatican City. Here are the ones I’d keep in mind:

  • Area: 0.44 km². The state is tiny, so the Museums, the basilica and the square sit within a short walk of each other.
  • Founded: 11 February 1929. That date is also an anniversary on the Vatican holiday list, 11 February each year.
  • Heritage status: World Heritage Site. Expect strict security and rules about bags and clothing.
  • Population: 949 in 2024. The small resident population is why visitor flows dominate the day.
  • Currency: euro. Prices on official pages are in euro, so the dollar figures above are conversions.
  • Head of state: Leo XIV. The pope is the head of state of Vatican City.

Add the Jubilee dates from earlier and you have the full picture: a very small state, a Year of Hope that ran from 24 December 2024 to 6 January 2026, and a long list of visitors who still need the same ordinary tickets.

Is a Guided Tour Worth Adding to Vatican Jubilee 2025 Tickets?

A guided tour is worth adding if you want context for the Sistine Chapel and the Raphael Rooms, and not worth it if you prefer to wander at your own pace. The skip-the-line tickets above cover entry only, with no guide. A guided option costs more because a professional leads a small group.

The entry ticket from Inside Out Italy starts at an office on Via Sebastiano Veniero 74, where a host escorts you to the Museums entrance and helps through security. The guide is not included, so think of it as assisted entry. The Gray Line option is a group guided tour of 20 people maximum, lasting 3 to 3.5 hours, and it includes official Vatican Museums headsets. Its meeting point is Piazza del Risorgimento, in front of Bar L’Ottagono, and latecomers cannot be accommodated.

If a guide is what you want, read about guided Vatican tours before choosing. If you only want to hear a concert or attend a service, the pages on Vatican concert seats and attending Easter Mass describe those separately, since they are not museum visits.

Your Plan for a Vatican Visit After the Jubilee

Your Vatican visit plan runs in this order. Decide your date first, then check it against the holiday and museum calendars. Next, choose between the official ticket and a partner skip-the-line product, and book the time slot you can realistically keep. Save the confirmation on your phone, and arrive early enough for security.

If I had to reduce Vatican Jubilee 2025 tickets to one rule, it would be this: the Jubilee shaped the crowds, but the ticket you buy is an ordinary entry ticket with a date and a time slot. That is why the practical questions, price, validity, timing and scams, matter more than the label.

For the rest of the planning, the Vatican tickets hub collects every ticket question in one place, and Vatican tickets from the 2025 season shows how the earlier year’s information compares. When you are ready, compare the options once more, pick the slot that fits your day, and confirm prices on the official site before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get tickets to the Vatican Museum?

The official Vatican Museums site names tickets.museivaticani.va as the only official site for buying tickets online. Full entry costs EUR 20 without online booking, and reduced tickets add a EUR 5 fee if you want to book Skip the Line on the official website. Partner skip-the-line tickets are another route if you prefer a set time slot.

What is a Jubilee year?

A jubilee is a special year of remission of sins, debts and universal pardon, according to Wikipedia. In the Catholic tradition it dates to 1300, when Pope Boniface VIII convoked a holy year, and ordinary jubilees have generally been celebrated every 25 or 50 years.

When will the Holy Door open again after 2025?

I can't point you to a sourced date for another Holy Door opening. What I can confirm is that the Jubilee Year of Hope ended on 6 January 2026, the Jubilee of St. Francis runs from 10 January 2026 to 10 January 2027, and an extraordinary jubilee is planned for 2033. Check the Vatican's official channels for any ceremony details.

Can you visit the Vatican without tickets?

Entry to St. Peter's Basilica is described as free of charge in the booking data for Vatican tours, although access is not guaranteed and may vary with crowd control. The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel do need a ticket.

Is a Vatican Museums ticket valid on another day?

No. The official site says the entry ticket allows the visit to the Museums and Sistine Chapel only on the day it is issued, and that tickets cannot be refunded. Pick your date carefully before you pay.
